Next, apply a varnish or lacquer and let cure fully. Cutting off the board corners about 5 mm is recommended to reduce damage if the board falls. Then tidy up the edges with some fine (220 grit) sandpaper.

Once the grid is completed, with a small handsaw or sharp knife plus steel straightedge, cut along the lines of the outer edge of the board and continue sawing or trace-cutting until the board piece is separated from the rest of the material. Measure everything carefully and draw lines with a long ruler or straightedge.
With pencil and long ruler lay out and trace the outer edge of the board, then trace the grid on the surface in its final position on the board. The grid proportions are 1.1, or height is 1.1 times the width. It's possible to make a board for 21-22 mm diameter stones.
